In 2007, together with Mstrmnd, a game narrative studio, Methods Unlimited undertook the development of an ARG called “Tom Tooman” for CBS TV series “Jericho”.
This very extensive and challenging project consisted of creating an elaborate story line, conceptualizing, building and puppetmastering a large number of online games, puzzles, websites, elements of other media such as text message broadcasts from Sprint PCS network, true GIS (Geographic Information System) coordinate data and maps, and the production of a 20-minute video complete with pyrotechnics and special effects, all to extend the fictitious world of the show and blur the line separating it from reality.
The game was launched during the Comic Con 2007 in San Diego and ended with the release of the highly anticipated second season of the show at the beginning of March 2008.
During its lifespan “Tom Tooman” ARG not only galvanized the existing fan base of “Jericho” but also generated new interest among game players and other new audiences, culminating in millions of hits a day on the ARG’s various online elements.
